Writing for the harp
The harp offers an extraordinary range of color, but its physical and mechanical logic is not always intuitive. Drawing on my experience teaching composition for harp at CalArts and performing orchestral, chamber, film, and contemporary music, I help composers with notation, pedaling, resonance, extended techniques, and playability through consultations, score review, and workshops.
Consultations
I offer consultations for composers at any stage of a project, from early sketches to completed scores.
Consultations are available for professional composers, students, orchestrators, arrangers, and educators. You do not need to have previous experience writing for harp.
I welcome projects of all sizes, from a one-measure question to a complete score. Rates are based on the length and complexity of the material and the type of feedback requested. For a brief question—especially about music I may be performing—feel free to reach out; a formal consultation may not always be necessary.
